General information:
WULS offers a five & half-year (11 semesters) programme for secondary school graduates, and a 4.5 year programme of studies for postgraduate students, leading to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
This programme is taught exclusively in English, and leads to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. From start to finish, WULS gives graduates the necessary experience to enter the veterinary profession with confidence.
The programme is rigorous, with students taking roughly 860h classes per year.
Course Content:
Year I
You will develop a basic understanding of the Life Sciences underpinning veterinary medicine and become familiar with veterinary and medical terms.
Year II
You will delve more deeply into Life Sciences, particularly anatomy, physiology and veterinary immunology, and will start studying microbiology, animal breeding and nutrition.
Year III
From this year you will move on to preclinical courses. and will focus on imaging diagnostics, clinical diagnostics and public health protection.
Year IV
In this year you will continue honing to hone your diagnostic and preclinical skills
Year V
Your main focus in this year will be on contagious and internal diseases, and surgery. You will have important placements in the faculty clinics and cooperating farms.and have the opportunity to develop your specialisation
Career prospects:
After you graduate, you may register to practise as a vet in Ireland or the UK
Entry requirements:
NUI Matriculation requirements: six passes at Leaving Certificate [inc two at C or above] PLUS University Entrance Examination in Biology & Chemistry.
Graduates with relevant degrees may be exempted from entrance test
